This was something that really struck me once it came down to Obama versus McCain: that everyone was all atwitter with talk of Obama getting assassinated and McCain just dying really soon. With all of the speculation flying around, who would really be surprised if the Prez didn’t make it through 4 years? Would Obama’s assassination have the kind of impact that JFK’s had, or less, because we all kind of saw it coming, or would it be way, way worse, like my dad says in the comic?
As for McCain, he may have 4 years of functioning left in him, but a 4-year stint as President ages you about 10 years, and I don’t see that working out well…not that he would die necessarily, but he might do a fade-out and earn some unfavorable Reagan comparisons. Either way, it made the VP choices particularly crucial—though whether it was this or just Palin that gave the VP debate better ratings than either of the preceding presidential debates, I dunno. Probably more Palin than anything else. Or at least the pre-debate moratorium on Palin interviews…
So hey Americans, tomorrow I think is a good day for voting!
