#98: Hemingway Self-Portraits
Monday, 29 December 2008

Hemingway famously wrote a six-word short story that he called his best work. Here it is:

For sale: baby shoes, never worn.

Since then, many have followed. Some of my favorites are in this collection of stories by SF/fantasy/horror authors, collected by Wired. It also inspired SMITH magazine’s six word memoirs. For me, writing six-worders mostly makes for a good warm-up before writing/drawing. Today’s comic is the result of one such session.

Also, I have a holiday guest strip up at The Guest Strip Project today! The GSP is a webcomic composed entirely of guest strips, and affiliated with the Kid’s Book Project, proceeds from which go towards the Make-A-Wish Foundation. My strip makes, uh, a lot more sense if you read the preceding strips (it’s a fairly quick, if kind of disjointed, read), though that doesn’t really excuse the awkward punning…

I like this one. Also, your x-mas guest strip confused me until I read, like, 10 previous ones. Then I decided it was awesome.

    haha… “cuckled”

You crammed two puns into that comic? I’m disappointed/impressed. Still way  better than most of the other guest strips, at least it didn’t involve donuts.

Also all your biographies are super-depressing. May I suggest something more uplifting like, “Lost will to live, remembered bacon!”

The Guest Strip Project failed in its mission. Actually this happened quite some time ago, but it’s news to me now. It folded just over a fortnight after you published your comic, so maybe you had something to do with it?
