Learning by ripping off
#99: Shoki The Demon Killer
Tuesday, 30 December 2008

Drawn from an image in the Hokusai Manga, of which I apparently own a volume? I drew a bunch of comics tonight, but they were all so bad that I was afraid that everyone would just stop reading instantly if I put them up so I’m posting an image of me cribbing a master’s work instead. Anyway, Shoki is a badass spirit dude.

Cool!  Nevermind J. Rovira as it is a well known tradition in art to learn by drawing previous masters’ work.  If I remember correctly, Michelangelo and many of his contemporaries drew from  Masaccio’s frescos to better understand perspective, value to look more three dimensional, movement  and most of the other landmarks of the Rennisance.

The Japanese tradition of ink drawings are amazing - their lines are wonderful.

(Holy crap. I am such a nerd. Le sigh.)
